Nikon Z6 and Z7 users will now be able to enjoy 12 bit 4K RAW material via HDMI. A few months ago Nikon released the news of the new update for these 2 models and the 12 bit issue remained to be confirmed. Now it is safe to say that the new update will allow RAW recording and the price is $199.99.
Nikon Z6 and Z7 can be connected to Atomos monitors that are compatible with these models for clean sensor output with the added bonus of 12-bit signal. Many DSLR camera models have already opted for this recording model, and finally Nikon has signed up for this workflow for the first time. Through the HDMI output we connect an external monitor, in this case Atomos Ninja V to record the clean output with more color depth and thus have a higher quality and opportunity to work in post-production.
To install the new 2.20 firmware on the Nikon Z6 and Z7, we have to download the new update but the camera must be taken to a Nikon service center.
