The Foundry launches HieroPlayer

The Foundry, a developer of graphics and visual effects software, has launched HieroPlayer, a new system for VFX review and playback.

Possibly its greatest advantage lies in its integration with Hiero and Nuke systems, also from The Foundry, providing designers with considerable acceleration in their workflows.

Here is a video presentation of HieroPlayer.

Main characteristics

  • Thanks to this new software, Nuke users can export a shot or sequence they are working on, review it along with its audio in the HieroPlayer timeline, even if they have access to multiple versions, and then return to Nuke without any problem.
  • It also complements Hiero, The Foundry’s media management, conforming and review system. Now, users will be able to have full access to Hiero projects, allowing them to visualize and work on conforming drawings as soon as the images have been processed.
  • It shares image and audio reading functionality with both systems, so they can all read the same formats and do so in the same way. These include R3D, ARRIRAW, EXR, MOV or DPX.
  • In its timeline it is possible to play sequences containing a mix of video and audio tracks with different speeds. It also contains editing tools to create new sequences (move, trim, slip, slide, roll or razor).
  • Its “A/B Viewer” display mode allows a comparison of different versions of clips, sequences or entire tracks, allowing you to position images horizontally, vertically, mix them, etc.
  • It also has functions for color management, such as OpenColorIO and scopes (histogram, waveform and vectorscope); and for data management, allowing you to organize, create libraries, add notes to drawings and label elements.

Here are some tutorials that will help you to better understand how it works together with Nuke.
