Digital Heaven‘s Pro Player is a professional QuickTime player created for editors and graphic designers.

The company claims that it is the successor to QuickTime Pro 7, because since the release of QuickTime Player X, a lot of workflows have been put to the test. Every time you start a project on a new machine, you have to make sure that QT version 7 is installed because it allowed custom export options.

Pro Player does not have this quality; it only works as a QuickTime file player (it does not support MPEG-1 or MPEG-2), but it has many other features necessary for editors.

First of all, it is organized in a simple and elegant interface where we can easily find all the options. One of the first things we notice when we stop at the interface, is that a timecode is displayed, a really important detail for editors and designers who need to be able to communicate accurately. The timecode display includes two possibilities: HH:MM:SS:FF or frames.

Another great feature of Pro Player is that it includes features from editing systems, such as J-K-L controls or looping playback. With J-K-L we can rewind, stop, play in normal speed, faster, slower or even frame by frame. The “Loop” function allows loop playback, which can be adjusted by selecting an in and out point.

It also has the option “Reveal in Finder”, which shows where the file being played is inside the computer; for those moments when we are not clear about its location and we want to move or copy it.

Finally, the video clip information is displayed at all times in the lower left corner of the interface, without the need to press CMD + I to get it. At a glance we can know all the characteristics of our file, even if it has an alpha channel (which can be displayed in black and white).

Pro Player is available for Mac OS X (version 10.6 and above) for $29.99. You can purchase it from this page or download the trial, which in this case does not have a time restriction, but offers the possibility to open up to 20 files.
