New Tokina 25-75mm T2.9

Tokina has announced what will be their new cinema lens, the new 25-75mm T2.9. A new model that seems to fit in perfectly with Tokina’s other 2 lenses 11-20mm and 50-135mm. For a lens intended for cinema it is a small and compact lens with 174mm in length from its widest angle distance to its maximum telephoto.

Like their other zoom models, Tokina’s lenses maintain the same mechanical characteristics in their designs. They are parafocal lenses, which allows them to maintain focus as we zoom. It also reduces focal breathing when zooming and focusing and limits distortion in the image.

The structure and composition of the lens consists of 18 optical elements in 15 groups, 0.8 MOD cine gears, the filter size is 86mm and at the front it has a diameter of 95mm for users to add standard size cine complements.

The new Tokina is a zoom lens intended for 36mm diameter Super 35 sensor film cameras. This means that the new Tokina 25-75mm can be attached to cameras such as RED Helium, Dragon and Monstro 6K, Arri Alexa, mirrorless DSLRs such as Canon and Blackmagic or Panasonic. This does not detract from the fact that it can also be mounted on PL or EF mounts with the Tokina Cinema 1.6x. With the adapter the image is cropped to a 40-120mm.

At the moment we will have to wait until spring 2021 to see this lens on the market, but what Tokina has already confirmed is its price and it will go on sale for $5,799.
