Blackmagic Design yesterday released the new update of DaVinci Resolve 17 with a host of new features, as well as the Speed editor panel, which is now included in the package for new licenses.
Let’s start with the Cut page, the latest addition to the software, has been improved in this new version to help you edit and work even faster. The metadata list can now be organized in such a way that it is quicker to find the material, sort it and locate it quickly at a glance using folders.
Focused also on social networks, from this page you can automatically and quickly crop images in portrait or square format, and other distribution options for networks. The way these reframes work is based on facial recognition to automatically keep the subject in frame in the chosen format.
We also gain speed when trimming audio, with a larger audio shape for more precise cuts, and we speed up visual effects editing with the new list of icons in the library.
We move on to the edit page, where the proxy workflow has been improved to gain in machine performance and project transfer between systems. Faster editing functions before even editing a clip, such as the source. Enables multi-camera editing withsynchronization of clips in the same timeline. New options have also been added in some effects such as motion blur for transitions or keying for some compositions. To speed up processes, effects can be processed by creating new files, all in the timeline.
A host of new tools for HDR streams and creative color tools have been added to the color page. HDR images can be custom-tuned using the new HDR panel with color circles for more precise and personalized control. With these circles we can adjust exposure and saturation of the selected area taking into account the color space to make the whole image more uniform.
The primary wheels have been changed, with a new design. Tools already known in DaVinci Resolve, such as power windows, have also been improved and the Magic Maskoption helps us to isolate objects thanks to DaVinci’s neural engine.
Moving on to audio, the Fairlight page also includes interesting updates. Of particular note is the new Fairlight Audio Core engine, the new high-performance audio engine using FlexBus architecture with which you will be able to work with more than 2,000 tracks.
The new DaVinci Resolve 17 update is free, as they all are, and also features the Studio version, which costs $299. The Speed Editor is $259, except for those purchasing new licenses, which is included in the pack for a limited time.
