AMD has announced its new line of AMD FirePro professional graphics cards, including the AMD FirePro W600. This is the first graphics card in which the company has decided to take advantage of the Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture, with its 28nm.
AMD FirePro W600 is a card primarily intended for high resolution multi-display use. That is why it supports up to 6 (HD) displays, or projectors, from a single card and thanks to its 6 mini DisplayPort connectors. This quality allows its use in several screens displaying different information or, on the contrary, grouping them to display a single image (so it would be very useful for use in advertising or “Digital Signage”).
The maximum resolution supported is 4096 x 2304; 30bit; 60 Hz.
This card includes several features that provide increased performance and power savings. It has a GDDR5 graphics memory, with 2GB capacity; and is capable of decoding two HD video streams simultaneously, thanks to the Unified Video Decoder (AMD decoder included). It uses two types of technology to optimize consumption during working states, in this case PowerTune, or during idle state, in which it would use ZeroCore.
In addition to having the overlay capability to project a single image onto multiple screens, more mounts will be released over the rest of this year that will allow you to create different projection styles.
In the FirePro family of cards we can also find others that support from 2 to 6 displays, such as: ATI FirePro 2460, AMD FirePro 2270, AMD FirePro V7900 and ATI FirePro V9800.
The AMD FirePro W600 is now available and is compatible with Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Linux (32 or 64 bit). Here you can see all its features.
