While the principles of color remain the same, the tools to shape it are constantly evolving. Today, color correction software such as DaVinci Resolve integrates increasingly precise, intuitive and powerful features that allow the colorist to go beyond technical adjustment to build true visual atmospheres. In this series of online masterclasses, we will focus on the advanced application of these new tools for creating and maintaining professional looks. A space to understand not only how the controls work, but how to think with them to build visual identity.
In this course, senior colorist Elena Humanes delves into the complete anatomy of a look, working in detail on each of the components that define it. Throughout the class, she will explore how to modify the contrast, color and texture of the image using tools such as curves, HDR tool, selective CST or Chroma Warper. You will address spatial work between elements, incorporating grain, halation and photochemical emulations. It will also explore complex workflows such as the use of custom LUTs and color management in ACES environments, teaching how to manipulate IDT and LMT transformations to adapt any material to the desired narrative intent. Essential training for those who want to perfect their color with the technical precision and aesthetic judgment that contemporary filmmaking demands.
