Convergent Design announced a few days ago the latest firmware update for Odyssey, its line of recorder/monitors, which now adds support for 3D LUTs.
Thanks to the new version, users will be able to load up to 140 of their own 3D LUTs for monitoring on the 7Q and 7Q+ models. It should be noted that these LUTs are for display only and will therefore not be “burned” into the image. However, if we use v1.7 of Apple ProRes Transfer (a software also from Convergent Design) the LUTs being used during the recording of a file will be saved in the file’s metadata.
Another new feature is that the analysis tools can now measure the signal from the source image or from the image with the monitoring LUT applied. The LUT can be turned on or off via the video outputs and set to view on the Odyssey’s OLED display as well. In addition, the company has posted on this page the possible configuration options and has left several links for downloading different LUTs (ARRI, RED, Sony, Canon, etc.) along with an explanation of how to load them.
The following functionalities have also been added:
- Ability to de-amorphose images (2.0x, 1.5x or 1.33x) on video output.
- Possibility to display 17:9 images in “letterbox” or “center-cut” modes (for 2K and 4K aspect ratios different from 16:9). In this case, the scaled or cropped image is simply for display, but the full size is captured.
- New monitoring shapes, with dual zebra for shadow and highlight adjustments; and expanded false color, with the addition of pink for six colors in total.
- Improved color reproduction for Sony FS7 and FS700 cameras in RAW recording.
- Exclusive monitoring of the luminance signal or any of the R, G, B channels in monochrome.
Here you can download the latest firmware version for any of the Odyssey monitors/recorders and read in detail the fixes and improvements of this version.
