Panasonic has released a new film camera model called the AU-EVA 1. Professional film cameras are becoming increasingly affordable. Specifically, the AU-EVA 1 is small and light enough to be chosen for documentaries, for example.
Main features of the Panasonic AU-EVA 1
- 5.7K sensor, it can clearly delineate 2000 line pairs, while other 4K can reach a maximum of 1600 line pairs. Since the actual 4K image is mathematically derived from a 5.7K original, noise is reduced and the overall image is smoother without reducing sharpness. Aliasing (moiré) is also lower, and because there are so many individual color samples, the overall color reproduction is more accurate.
- Dual ISO, that is, is the ability to shoot at two different ISO settings as if they were both native, because in fact they both are. EVA1 comes with a native ISO of 800, but also with a native ISO of 2500. This is achieved by using two separate paths to extract information from the sensor, a traditional method and a specially optimized route. Thus, there are two points at which the cameras perform optimally: one for good lighting conditions and one for lower light. On the other hand, it will be possible to shoot at two ISO settings without having to change the depth of field.
The Panasonic AU-EVA 1 is a closer little sister to the VariCam LT and VariCam 35. This is because the EVA1 has exactly the same color appearance and exposure range as the larger cameras. EVA1 has the same V-Gamut color space and the same V-Log contrast curve. This offers the possibility to interchange shots from the different cameras.
