A meeting with female directors of photography is convened, which is part of the project CIMA EN CORTO (DISTANCIAS CORTAS), a film showcase and space for contact between professionals. This project is organized once a month byCIMA at CINETECA. An event in which fragments of their work will be screened and then they will talk about their experience and their vision of photography in film, television and advertising.
It will take place next May 30, at 9:00 p.m. in the Sala Borau of Cineteca. Matadero Madrid with the aim of making their work known to the media, audiovisual professionals and the general public.
CIMA (Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media) has already published that:
- only 2% of the films produced in 2016 had a female director of photography on their crews.
- In Spain, only one woman has competed for the Goya for Best Cinematography, Cristina Trenas, for ‘New York Shadows’ (2013).
- This year, for the first time in 89 years of history, a cinematographer has been nominated for an Oscar: Rachel Morrison, for ‘Mudbound’.
The screening and discussion will be followed by a networking session to encourage contact between professionals.
Directors of photography
A variety of women will participate in this meeting, from working behind the camera for more than a decade to others who have recently started their careers with great results.
Among those present were Raquel Fernandezwhose work has been named by Variety as “positively magical”. Pilar Sánchez, responsible for the cinematography of ‘Carmen y Lola’, feature film selected in 2018 at La Quincena de los Realizadores de Cannes; or Juana Jiménez a photographer in demand in the field of advertising.
They will be joined by Almudena Sánchez, Isabel Ruiz, Daniela Cajías, Rita Noriega, Tania Fonseca, Elisa Moreno, Elizabeth Prandi, Violeta D’Agatta, Cristina Rodríguez, Laura Sipán, Eva Díaz and Irene Garmtz, all of them outstanding professionals recognized for their work.
In a society like the one we live in, where women find it difficult to access prestigious positions, cinematography does not lag behind: only 2% of the films produced in 2016 have been in the hands of women.
