The new WD Blue SN550 NVMe SSD

The company Western Digital has launched its new storage device WD Blue SN550 NVMe SSD offering up to four times the speed of any SATA SSD. It is intended for users who require high performance and fast response.

It has been released in three formats with different capacities, the smallest being 250 Gb, an intermediate 500Gb and the largest capacity with 1 TB. Being an NVMe storage device, it has PCI-Express technology capable of reaching up to 2400 Mb per second in reading. Hence, it is up to 4 times faster than a disk based on SATA technology. This data transfer speed also depends on the host, the capacity of the disk and other factors that may reduce these speeds somewhat. However, the sequential write speed is reduced to 950 Mb per second.

The fast reading process is what allows us to work at higher speed whether it is for rendering, gaming or analyzing a lot of data, among many other applications. Now with the advent of 4K and 8K to more and more recording devices, working with such demanding content also requires PCs to be more powerful and that is what WD is trying to do. Western Digital have added 3D NAND technology to the controller and the new firmware to have a final result that provides the user with more capacity, stability, performance and speed.

On the other hand, the stability of SSD drives is maintained and the size is reduced compared to SATA. They have also improved the thermal design to make it more durable and stable as you use it.

They can already be purchased from the WD website. Prices vary according to capacity, costing 58 euros the smallest, 82 € the 500Gb and 145 € the largest capacity with 1 TB.
