Sorenson Media has updated version 8 of its compression and encoding software by releasing Sorenson Squeeze 8 Pro.
The company has always stuck to the “from anything to anything” philosophy and to achieve this they have gone a step further in this release by providing new media for intermediate formats used in editing systems such as Avid or Final Cut Pro.
In a way, cameras such as Sony XDCAM or Panasonic P2, which record their files in MXF, have contributed to the success of Squeeze, since the fact that they work in formats like this forces other systems to be more versatile in order to be compatible with as many codecs and formats as possible.
It is now possible to work with Avid DNxHD and Apple ProRes, which will make it easier for users to switch between the two systems or to easily create them from scratch. For example, Avid DNxHD files can now be exported without the need for Avid software, making it much easier for professionals who are not regular users but need to obtain this format.
Squeeze 8 Pro offers full support for all DNxHD resolutions (up to 10-bit).
For those more accustomed to using Final Cut Pro, you can now take full advantage of the ProRes codec family, including multistream, real-time editing and high image quality with reduced bandwidth.
Supports Apple ProRes 422 Proxy (10-bit) through Apple ProRes 444 (12-bit).
This is another new feature, the ability to support up to 12-bit depth, allowing users to maintain the colors of their material.
In addition to these two new supports, it is now also possible to encode for Dolby Pro audio, along with all the video codecs that were already in previous versions, such as H.264, Flash, WebM, Windows Media, etc.( You can see all its featureshere ).
The company is working to enable Sorenson Squeeze to support JPEG2000 and DCP in the future.
Sorenson Squeeze 8 Pro is now available for $999 ($200 more expensive than the previous version). For those who already own V8, any of the add-ons (DNxHD, ProRes or Dolby Pro Audio) can be purchased separately, each for $99.
This is the page where you can purchase or download the trial.
Taking advantage of the long-standing collaboration between Avid and Sorenson, they have organized a webinar on the Squeeze workflow in Avid, which will last one hour and although it will take place this evening, it is at 20:00h (Spanish time), so you still have time to register here.
