Sony introduces its new Sony α7III camera.

Features Sony α7III

Full-frame sensor

It has a 24.2MP Exmor R CMOS sensor with full frame, which in its extended ISO mode offers a range of 50-204800. Sony in turn highlights its 15 stops of dynamic range. The camera reads the full width of the sensor with no pixel binning. In effect, the camera is achieving 4K video by down-sampling from a smidgen of over 6K of data without windowing. The α7 is also capable of shooting 120 fps in 1080p mode with a bit rate of 100Mbps. Proxy recording is another feature that offers flexibility in dealing with footage in post. Despite the lack of information, it is estimated to remain at 8-bit.

Autofocus

In the α7III Sony is touting its 4D FOCUS capabilities. This translates, in Sony’s words into “425 contrast AF points working with a 693-point focal plane phase detection AF system inherited from the acclaimed α9 model.” The new camera also features a 5-axis in-body optical stabilization system, which offers a 5-stop advantage.

Other features

On the other hand, the back of the camera houses an OLED viewfinder, and the large pull-down touchscreen. There are two SD card slots. These can be configured so that you can record separate JPEG and RAW files, or have still images on one card and recorded videos on the other. Sony also claims that the NP-FZ100 battery offers vastly improved battery life over the previous version of the camera.
