We bring you the new features offered by Panasonic for 4K/HD production for live broadcasting.
Depending on the level of production, we will have different options:
- At a more affordable level we have the AG-CX350, the industry’s lightest 10-bit 4K fixed lens camcorder, which includes 4K, 10-bit, 60p capture, HDR recording, and is equipped with RTMP / RTSP / RTP protocol for live streaming and NDI | HX-ready IP connection.
- On the other hand, we have the AJ-PX5100, a P2HD camera with shoulder mount, lightweight body, offering HDR (HLG) content and 1080 at 60p recording and is ideal for network news, documentaries and high-end corporate/sports productions.
– The AG-CX350 has a 1.0 type MOS sensor(approximately 15.03 megapixels in UHD / FHD) that provides exceptional depth of field and offers a great balance between image quality and sensitivity (F12 / F13 in high sensitivity mode). The CX350 can capture in UHD (3840×2160), Full HD (1920×1080), HD (1280×720) and SD (720×480). Like the EVA1, the CX350 offers 4:2:2 10-bit color sampling with ALL-Intra (400-Mbps) and LongGOP (150Mbps) and can record in UHD up to 29.98p / 25p and FHD up to 59.97p / 50p. It also supports the 10-bit HEVC codec in UHD up to 59.97p / 50p with a low bit rate of 200Mbps. The HEVC 10-bit codec can be decoded and played natively on computers with 7th generation Intel Core i7 chips (or later). All of these formats and compression rates can be recorded internally on lower cost SD cards.
– The AJ-PX5100, in addition to allowing all of these options, still maintains the same Full HD 2/3 type 3 MOS sensor in a lightweight 7.5 lb. body.
The new camera also offers HDR (HLG) content and 1080 / 60p recording for the first time in a Panasonic ENG camera.
Connectivity
Both products offer multiple forms of IP connectivity:
– The CX350 is the first handheld camcorder with in-camera NDI HX , enabling high-quality IP video connectivity with live production switchers, including the Panasonic AV-HLC100 Stream Studio.
It contains the RTMP (Real Time Messaging Protocol) function, which enables video streaming to key social platforms such as Facebook Live and YouTube Live. Internal HD recording (MOV) while streaming content is also available.
The CX ROP app for iOS / Android tablets allows IP remote control of the CX350 with Gigabit Ethernet LAN connector (RJ45) or wireless module (AJ-WM50). With the app, you can control functions such as camera settings, image quality adjustment, start and pause recording, menu settings, etc.
– On the other hand, Panasonic has improved connectivity by also incorporating low-latency RTMP communication as standard in the AJ-PX5100. This means that the camera can deliver smooth transmissions and transmit information between the camera and the newsroom much faster than before, speeding up news workflows. The AJ-PX5100 also features wired and wireless connectivity with Wi-Fi, USB and Gigabit Ethernet, as well as connecting to LiveU and TVU networks. The AJ-PX5100 is also compatible with P2 Cast, Panasonic’s cloud-based news editing system.
Finally, in addition to capturing conventional gamma modes (HD, SD, FILMLIKE 1/2/3 FILM-REC, VIDEO-REC), both now support HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) to capture a wider dynamic range. The HLG standard was jointly developed by the BBC (British Broadcasting Company) and NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) and is now supported by TV stations and broadcast services. When shooting HLG, they can be set to HDR or SDR on each output: LCD / EVF, SDI and HDMI.
