Atomos has just released firmware version 4.2 of its well-known Ninja 2, a recorder, monitor and player with HDMI connection capable of capturing directly in the codecs used in editing (Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHD), as well as without compression at 8 or 10 bit.
The vast majority of features added in this update affect audio, with new scaled meters ranging from -30 to 0 dB (dBFS) and reference levels -18 and -20 marked. There is also the ability to display these meters vertically or horizontally and there is a new multi-channel audio page. In addition, support for proper audio recording of an analog channel is included.
Canon 5D Mark III camera users will be able to apply an input color correction to convert their footage to the standard Rec.709 color space. Thanks to the SmartMonitor feature, built into AtomOS 4, recorders have several tools to aid focus and exposure, such as focus peaking, zebra, false color or blue-only.
Finally, support has been added for recording with the Sony FS700 camera.
If you are Ninja 2 users you can update your recorder by downloading the 4.2 firmware from this link.
