Apple discontinues Mac Pro in Europe

Apple has shocked all its users by announcing the discontinuation of Mac Pro towers in Europe as of March 1.

According to a publication on the page 9to5Mac, it seems that Apple has sent the following statement to its distributors:

“As of March 1, 2013, Apple will no longer sell Mac Pro in EU, EU candidate and EFTA countries because these systems are not compliant with Amendment 1 of regulation IEC 60950-1, Second Edition which becomes effective on this date. Apple resellers can continue to sell any remaining inventory of Mac Pro after March 1. Apple will take final orders for Mac Pro from resellers up until February 18th for shipment before March 1 2013. Countries outside of the EU are not impacted and Mac Pro will continue to be available in those areas.”

For those of you who are lazy with English, this discontinuation (according to Apple) has nothing to do with the fact that they have not released a notable update for years or the lack of promotion, but is due to an incompatibility with new European regulatory standards that will come into force on March 1.

They affect the European Union, candidate countries and certain neighboring nations (such as EFTA: Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway).

It is not yet known exactly what the computers do not comply with, but the standard in question(Amendment 1 of regulation IEC 60950-1, Second Edition) appears to be connected to their internal components, such as parts of the power supply and wiring.

It is also said that it could be a strategy of Apple to advertise a new Mac Pro model, since this does not prevent them from designing a completely renewed line, which complies with European standards and thus be able to continue marketing them. (And by the way to fulfill what was promised a year ago, after launching a new generation with old processors, without Thunderbolt or USB 3).

After March 1, resellers will be able to continue selling remaining inventory, and Apple will ship final orders through February 18. In non-EU countries, Mac Pros will continue to be available unaffected.
