GoPro has announced its new line of Hero3+ cameras, which feature a 20% smaller and lighter design than previous models, as well as 30% longer battery life (a quality highly requested by its users).
The cameras that have all the added enhancements are the Black Edition cameras, GoPro’s most complete configuration.
A lens has been included that increases sharpness by 33% and carries a 2x reduction in image artifacts. There are also two new video modes; the first is SuperView, which allows you to capture greater perspective thanks to the improved wide-angle on 1080p and 720p footage. Then there’s Auto Low Light, a mode that adjusts the frame rate for best performance in changing light environments, lowering it in the event of less light.
The video modes of the Black Edition cameras range from 4K (up to 4096 x 2160) at 12p and WVGA (848 x 480) at 240p, with others in between such as 2.7K at 30p or the popular 1080p. It is also possible to capture 12MP still images at up to 30fps, for action sequences, and time-lapse capture is supported (0.5, 1, 2, 5, 10, 30 or 60).
Built-in Wi-Fi is four times faster, and Wi-Fi Remote connectivity allows control of up to 50 cameras from distances of up to 180m. Thanks to the GoPro app, remote control can be achieved from a phone or tablet.
Finally, audio capture has been improved by achieving advanced wind reduction to capture the subtlest sounds.
The Hero3+ line is now available through GoPro.com and authorized dealers worldwide. In addition, new accessories for capturing any activity have also been announced. You can see them all here.
The Black Edition is priced at €449, slightly higher than the other two models (Silver Edition: €349 and White Edition: €249). The differences are in the recording modes, the number of megapixels and the Wi-Fi connection.
